Company visit to the Hongkong International Terminals (HIT)
Sep 22, 2014
26 students (including 24 from the HKU BSIM programme and 2 from HKU EEE), together with 3 members (including Vincent, Alvin and Jean) from the IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter, paid a visit to Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) on 22 September 2014.
During the visit, the HIT staff introduced their award-winning, home-grown and intelligent scheduling system used in vessel berthing and handling of container cargos, and also guided a tour to show the on-site operations of these smooth and efficient international terminals. All participants benefited much from this visit, including:
(1) a better understanding of the actual operation of an intelligent and real-time scheduling system,
(2) the realization of the challenges and problems in implementation of such a system.
