Ng, "Smart AP: Wi-Fi Positioning and Optimization for a Smart City", a $7M ITF Project led by Prof. Gary Chan of HKUST, of which $850K was transferred to HKBU for an integrated positioning method for providing location-based services at some of the Shopping Malls. A SDK was developed such that 3rd party developers can make use of our API to integrate our positioning technology into their mobile applications. Pilot Site: Link (領展) Shopping Malls, Test Sites: HKBU, and HKUST
2009            Joseph K. Ng, “Geocaching Competition”, a location-aware treasure hunting competition utilizing GPS, UMTS, Wi-Fi and PAN positioning technologies. For the second time in a row, RCUC is the technical sponsor of the event. This is one of the events in the 2009 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day – Hong Kong (16th May 2009) co-organized by Communications Association of Hong Kong (CAHK), and the Hong Kong Federations of Youth Groups (HKFYG).
2009            Joseph K. Ng, “Geocaching Competition at the Summer Camp at HKBU (June 2009)”, a location-aware treasure hunting competition utilizing PAN positioning technologies. This is a consultancy project sponsored by the Science Faculty of HKBU.
2008            Joseph K. Ng, “The Hong Kong Olympic Piazza - Wi-Fi Interactive Treasure Hunt 2008” was sponsored by OGCIO & HKTB for the Hong Kong Olympic Event at TST, Hong Kong, August 2008. This $330K+ consultancy project utilized the Wi-Fi Positioning technology invented and developed by our Research Centre (RCUC) - $330,000 + $60,000
2008            Joseph K. Ng, “Mobile Personal Response System (mPRS)”, a personal response system that makes use of users’ mobile phone to do opinion poll in classrooms. This project had finished its test trial with 30 chemistry teachers at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre by the end of Nov 2007 and planned to have another set of test trial to be conducted at HKBU in the 1st semester of 2008-2009. This project is originated from the HKBU Teaching Development Grant “Do Not Turn off Your Mobile Phones in My Lectures – A Mobile Phone Based Response System” proposed by Prof. Albert Lee (HKBU, CHEM) and Prof. Joseph Ng (HKBU, COMP).
2008            Joseph K. Ng, “Geocaching Competition”, a location-aware treasure hunting competition utilizing GPS, UMTS, Wi-Fi and PAN positioning technologies. This is one of the events in the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day – Hong Kong co-organized by CAHK, and the Office of Sin Chung Kai - Legco Member (ITFC) of the HKSAR Government. RCUC is one of the co-organizers and provides the platform and technical solutions for the treasure hunting game.
2008            Joseph K. Ng, “The Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture Exhibition” - A one-month Exhibition at the Hong Kong Central Police Station. We provided an information dispatch system that utilizes the Bluetooth push technology. Through the users’ Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, a short textual description and a set of photos will be pushed to the user whenever a user comes near to an exhibit.
