Abstract
Being a postgraduate student is a major commitment as well as sacrifice. You
have made a wise choice in pursuing postgraduate studies at Baptist U. because
the rewards, both monetary as well as professional, are well worth it. Whether
you are pursuing a master’s degree or a doctoral degree, it is important
to make the maximum use of the opportunities available to you as a postgraduate
student. In this talk I will present my own experiences as a postgraduate student
and now as a teacher and mentor of postgraduate students.
Biography of Speaker
Anil Jain is a University Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Computer
Science & Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering and Statistics
& Probability. He joined the MSU faculty in 1974 and served as the Department
Chair during 1995-99. His research interests include pattern recognition, computer
vision and biometric recognition. He has received Fulbright, Guggenheim and
Humboldt awards. He is a Fellow of a number of professional societies, including
AAAS, ACM, IAPR, IEEE and SPIE. He holds six patents in the area of fingerprint
matching and is the author of a number of books on biometrics and pattern recognition.
ISI has designated him as a highly cited researcher. According to Citeseer,
his 1988 book “Algorithms for Clustering Data” is ranked # 91 in
“Most Cited Articles in Computer Science”.
