The programme aims to educate IT professionals and individuals with relevant background on the state-of-the-art technologies and tools related to Information Systems. It provides students with solid technological background and enhances students’ competitiveness in a career related to emerging areas of Information Systems.

Programme Characteristics

  1. The programme emphasizes on technologies and methodologies for information systems (e.g., for development web information systems and mobile information systems).
  2. The programme covers the major areas of information systems (namely, enterprise information systems, financial information systems and health information systems).
  3. The programme caters the current and emerging market demands in the IT industry. Students can enhance their immediate competitiveness in the IT job market.

Admission Requirements

  1. Applicants should normally possess a bachelor degree in science, engineering or IT relevant fields from a recognized university or equivalent qualification; and
  2. If applicants did not use English as the medium of learning in their bachelor's degree programmes, they should satisfy any one of the following English proficiency requirements:
    • An IELTS overall band score of at least 6.0;
    • A TOEFL score of at least 537 (paper-based) or 74 (Internet-based);
    • Other equivalent qualifications (e.g. CET-6 score of at least 450, CEFR level C1 or above)

Programme Structure

The programme includes 11 units of core courses and 18 units of elective courses. If a student has relevant background knowledge / experience in the subject of Database Systems and Administration, he/she must take an elective course to substitute the core course "Database Systems and Administration".

The elective courses are organized into three streams, namely, Enterprise Computing, Financial Information Systems and Health Information Systems, MSc Practicum & Research and other courses. Each student is required to successfully complete at least ONE course from each of the three streams.

Students may specialize in the stream of Financial Information Systems by completing at least THREE courses in this stream. In addition, students may also specialize in the stream of Health Information Systems by completing at least THREE courses in this stream. Those who declared and successfully completed a specialization in Financial Information Systems or Health Information Systems will have their specialization(s) shown on the transcripts after fulfilling the general requirements of this programme.

Programme Duration and Study Schedule

The programme is offered in both one-year full-time mode and two-year part-time mode. Most classes are conducted on weekday nights and Saturdays, so that both part-time and full-time students can attend these classes. Some courses may be offered in the daytime for full-time students.

Programme Fee

The tuition fee for the entire programme is HK$120,000.

If a student cannot complete the programme within the normal study schedule, he/she is required to pay extra tuition fee.

Financial Support

Continuing Education Fund:

The Hong Kong SAR Government has set up a Continuing Education Fund (CEF) to subsidize Hong Kong residents to pursue continuing education. Some core and elective courses of this M.Sc. programme have been included in the list of reimbursable courses for CEF purposes. Scholarships:

High Distinction/Distinction/Merit Scholarships are provided to students with very good academic performance. Each student can obtain at most HK $24,000.

Entrance Scholarships are provided to freshmen with excellent academic records in their undergraduate studies. Each recipient can receive at most HK $50,000.
