The programme aims to educate IT professionals and individuals with relevant background on the state-of-the-art technologies and tools related to Information Systems. It provides students with solid technological background and enhances students’ competitiveness in a career related to emerging areas of Information Systems.
The programme includes 11 units of core courses and 18 units of elective courses. If a student has relevant background knowledge / experience in the subject of Database Systems and Administration, he/she must take an elective course to substitute the core course "Database Systems and Administration".
The elective courses are organized into three streams, namely, Enterprise Computing, Financial Information Systems and Health Information Systems, MSc Practicum & Research and other courses. Students can select elective courses freely.
Students may specialize in the stream of Financial Information Systems by completing at least THREE courses in this stream. In addition, students may also specialize in the stream of Health Information Systems by completing at least THREE courses in this stream. Those who declared and successfully completed a specialization in Financial Information Systems or Health Information Systems will have their specialization(s) shown on the transcripts after fulfilling the general requirements of this programme.
The programme is offered in one-year full-time mode. Most classes are conducted on weekday nights and Saturdays and some courses may be offered in the daytime.
For full-time study, the normal study schedule is as follows:
The tuition fee for the entire programme is HK$120,000.
If a student cannot complete the programme within the normal study schedule, he/she is required to pay extra tuition fee.
Continuing Education Fund:
The Hong Kong SAR Government has set up a Continuing Education Fund (CEF) to subsidize Hong Kong residents to pursue continuing education. Some core and elective courses of this M.Sc. programme have been included in the list of reimbursable courses for CEF purposes. High Distinction/Distinction/Merit Scholarships are provided to students with very good academic performance. Each student can obtain at most HK $24,000.
Entrance Scholarships are provided to freshmen with excellent academic records in their undergraduate studies. Each recipient can receive at most HK $50,000.
The medium of instruction is English. All teaching and learning materials are in English.
This Advisory Committee provides regular advices to ensure that the programme includes the state-of-the-art IT content and fulfils the needs of the IT industry. Currently, the Advisory Committee is composed of the following members:
All professors are highly qualified with Ph.D. degrees awarded by renowned universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, and Hong Kong.
