FWD Challenge Award 2015 (Spring Challenge)

Take Up the Challenge and Let the Fun Begin!

*** Application Deadline : 6 Mar 2015 (Extended) ***

Description of the Challenge
Data visualization is both an art and a science. People may interpret it as a modern branch of descriptive statistics and most likely a creative way to present complex data such that they are more understandable and usable. In general, the primary goal of data visualization is to clearly present data to users in a more efficient and effective way through graphics or visual constructs. Other than the traditional aids like tables and charts, we suggest to use the “tag cloud” as a tool for data visualization and thus, the “Tag Cloud Challenge” as our first challenge for the FWD Challenge Award 2015.

The Tag Cloud Challenge
Observe, speculate, design and find out how things are done

From Wikipedia, “A tag cloud (word cloud, or weighted list in visual design) is a visual representation for text data, typically used to depict keyword metadata (tags) on websites, or to visualize free form text. Tags are usually single words, and the importance of each tag is shown with font size or color. This format is useful for quickly perceiving the most prominent terms and for locating a term alphabetically to determine its relative prominence. When used as website navigation aids, the terms are hyperlinked to items associated with the tag.” In this challenge, you are to observe what is a tag cloud. Seek out how it is use for data visualization and web navigation. And explore, design and find out how a tag cloud is done. Furthermore, what will be the extra features and how you are going to improve the current tag cloud design for the next generation tag cloud. For this challenge, your team will have to implement a software, a prototype to demonstrate the design and features of the data visualization tool you design.
