MIND DRIVE IN I-TECH CAMP 2014

The Department of Computer Science celebrated the arrival of summer with more than 20 secondary school students from 5 local secondary schools! During 4-5 July 2014, our department organized the “i-TECH Summer Camp” and prepared a series of exciting activities for our future IT leaders. Participants formed the Cloud Scouting Units to complete the missions based on cloud enabling technology. Students were delighted to learn interesting IT knowledge in our workshops, such as the “Mobile App Development Workshop – Flap by Flap Academy” and the “Natural User Interface Design for Entertainment Workshop”. After learning some basic concepts on natural user interface design, students applied what they had learnt in the “Mind Drive Competition”. In the competition, students demonstrated their excellent creativity, programming skills and body coordination. After several rounds of heated competition, the following awards went to:

First Prize

  • Team “Ultra Forte Blu Pacific”
  • LEE Tsz Yan (SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School)
  • CHEUNG Chung Yan (Carmel Secondary School)
  • WONG Lok Wah (La Salle College)

First Runner-up

  • Team “雪山飛狐 Hot Dog”
  • CHEUNG Lok Yee Louise (Carmel Secondary School)
  • MONG Yik Hei Gabriel (La Salle College)
  • CHAN Ka Man Candy (Holy Trinity College)

Another highlight of the event was the “Cultural Exploration Night”, in which 3 visiting Italian students (1 MSc student and 2 BSc students) from the University of Perugia interacted with the secondary school students. Several mass games were conducted, and our Italian visitors quickly got along with the secondary school students well. They designed their team logo/banners together and cooperated closely in the “Leaning Tower of Pisa – Marshmallow Challenge” game. Both the Italian visitors and the secondary school students had had a joyful and memorable time in the “Cultural Exploration Night”.
