Short Courses on Windows XP Administration and Intermediate Web Programming

There will be two short courses organized by the Department of Computer Science and are to be held during 4-7 Jan 2010. They are open ONLY to students of the department and they are free of charge.

The two courses will be run in parallel and students can only take one. The first course is more suitable for Year 1 students and the second one is more suitable for Year 2 or above. If there are more students than we can handle, those registered first will be given the priority.

Course 1: Windows XP Administration Workshop

Objective:
It is for students who have a basic understanding of computer hardware and know a basic operation of the Windows XP operating system, and would like to be a more proficient XP user in installing, configuring and administering Windows XP Professional.

Time: 4 Jan - 7 Jan 2010 (Mon to Thur); 09:30-12:30 and 14:00-17:00;

Course 2: Intermediate Web Programming Workshop
*************************************************************

Objective:
It is designed for students with basic understanding on HTML, JavaScript, AJAX, XML, SQL and JSP and want to become more proficient in applying related technologies in development of web-based information systems, both client-side scripting and server-side scripting would be covered.

Time: 4 Jan - 7 Jan 2010 (Mon to Thur); 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-17:00;
Venue: OEW802

- Applying things learnt in books to real-life application development
- Tricks in enhancing user friendliness (AJAX and jQuery)
- Issues in integration of Client-Side / Server-Side codes
