When I was a PhD student, I wished that someone could have given me a panacea for a very successful academic career. My struggles over the past twenty plus years have proved, time and time again, the non-existence of such a wonder drug. Nevertheless, I did find the existence of a set of rules, strategies, methods, heuristics, and tools that would greatly help me along the way, which unfortunately did not catch my attention at the time. In this talk, I will share with you my findings and, more importantly, advice from many great minds. It is my gift to you for a wonderful way of life in searching, researching, and having fun at the same time.
Yiyu Yao is a professor of computer science at the University of Regina, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. His research focuses on foundations and implementation of intelligent systems. His recent publications contributes to a triarchic theory of granular computing, a theory of three-way decisions, interval sets and algebras, generalized rough sets, decision-theoretic rough sets, foundations of data mining, models of information retrieval systems, information retrieval support systems, and Web Intelligence.
