Professor Cheung Yiu-ming Elected IEEE Fellow

Professor Cheung Yiu-ming was recently elected as a Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Professor Cheung Yiu-ming from the Department of Computer Science has been recently elected as a Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his tremendous contributions to cluster analysis and visual computing. In the year of 2018, there were 296 newly elevated IEEE Fellows worldwide, with just seven of them coming from Hong Kong.

The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.

Professor Cheung’s research interests include machine learning, pattern recognition, image and video processing, and optimization. His work has a variety of applications including in data analytics and identity authentication in security-access control systems. He is the Founding Chairman of Hong Kong Chapter of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and Vice Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Intelligent Informatics (TCII). He has over 200 articles published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and at conferences.
