i-TECH Summer Camp and Mind Drive Competition 2013

5 Jul 2013

The Department of Computer Science celebrated the arrival of summer with more than 20 secondary school students from Holy Trinity College and La Salle College! During 5-6 July 2013, our department organized the "i-TECH Summer Camp" and prepared a series of exciting activities for our future IT leaders. Students were delighted to learn interesting IT knowledge in our workshops, such as the "Mobile Game Development Workshop ABC - the Angry Birds Clone" , the "Mobile App Development Workshop XYZ - the eXcel Youth Zone" and the "Natural User Interface Design for Entertainment Workshop". After learning some basic concepts on natural user interface design, students applied what they have just learnt in the "Mind Drive Competition". In the competition, students demonstrated their excellent creativity, programming skills and body coordination. After several rounds of heated competition, the following awards went to:

First Prize
Team "CIAO!"
  • Wong Lok Wah (La Salle College)
  • Cheung Chi Kiu (La Salle College)
  • Chan Hoi Yi Chloe (Holy Trinity College)

First Runner-up
Team "i-TECHNICS"
  • Chong Chi Hin Ryan (La Salle College)
  • Wong Alvis (La Salle College)
  • Hong Hei Ip Kelly (Holy Trinity College)

Once again, congratulations to all winners!

Another highlight of the event was the "Cultural Exploration Night", in which 4 visiting Italian students (1 PhD students, 2 MSc students and 1 BSc student) from the University of Perugia interacted with the secondary school students. Several mass games were conducted, and our Italian visitors quickly got along with the secondary school students well. They designed their team logo/banners together and cooperated closely in the "Leaning Tower of Pisa - Marshmallow Challenge" game. Both the Italian visitors and the secondary school students have had a joyful and memorable time in the "Cultural Exploration Night".
