Strategic Co-operation Agreement between the Department of Computer Science and the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, China CDC

On July 15, 2013, the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University, signed a strategic co-operation agreement with the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (NIPD) under the Chinese Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (China CDC). Under the agreement, a “Joint Research Laboratory for Intelligent Disease Surveillance & Control” is established. The agreement opened up new collaboration opportunities between the two parties in both teaching and research, as well as in working to tackle real-world challenging problems.

In the signing ceremony, Prof. Jiming Liu, Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Prof. Xiao-Nong Zhou, Director of NIPD, delivered speeches highlighting the past joint research efforts of the two parties and envisioning new breakthroughs in disease control research and technologies by further leveraging both complementary strengths in the Joint Laboratory. Afterwards, Prof. Liu and Prof. Zhou signed the collaboration agreement, followed by the unveiling ceremony of the name plaque of the Joint Laboratory by Prof. Liu and Prof. Ning Xiao, Deputy Director of NIPD. In the future, the Department of Computer Science will work closely with NIPD in boosting the development of the Joint Laboratory.
