Prof Tang Yuan Yan received the First Class of Natural Science Award of Technology Development Centre, Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (教育部自然科學獎) in November 2005 for his research work entitled "The theory and research method for digital document and image analysis and recognition" (數字文本圖像分析與識別的理論和方法研究) .
