Professor Liu Jiming has been appointed as HKBU Associate Vice-President (Research)

The University announced the appointment of Professor Liu Jiming to the post of Associate Vice-President (Research) with effect from 1 May 2017.

Professor Liu, currently Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chair Professor of Department of Computer Science, will focus on providing support to raise the research capabilities of the University, assisting in coordinating the implementation and monitoring of research-related strategic plans including, but not limited to, the identification and development of the University’s Niche Research Areas and preparation for the Research Assessment Exercise 2020.

Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, is pleased with the appointment. He said, "Professor Liu Jiming is a prolific scholar and administrator who has demonstrated substantial leadership and research excellence. I would also like to thank him for taking up this concurrent post on top of his current duties."

Professor Liu joined HKBU in 1993, and is currently Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science. He was Acting Dean of Science from June 2015 to January 2017 and Head of the Department of Computer Science from 2003 to 2011. He also received the HKBU President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work in 2007. As a world-renowned scholar, Professor Liu has served the academic and professional community in various capacities, and was elected as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow in 2011 for his contributions to Web intelligence and multi-agent autonomy-oriented computing.

Professor Liu received his BSc from East China Normal University, China; MA from Concordia University, Canada; and MEng and PhD from McGill University, Canada.
