COMP Gathers with Alumni in Homecoming Day 2018 and Celebrates 30th Anniversary

In celebrating the 30th anniversary of its founding, the Department of Computer Science joined the Open House Session and Grand Reunion Dinner of HKBU Homecoming Day 2018 on 20 October 2018 and shared the joy with over 80 guests and alumni.

The array of activities at the Open House Session included a tea reception, photo booth, guided tour of server room, project demonstration, video show on research projects and virtual reality games etc. Faculty members, students, alumni and friends of the Department were thrilled by meeting many familiar faces and shared the precious memory at the Department.

Associate Vice-President (Research) Prof. Jiming Liu and Department Head Dr. William Cheung highlighted department’s focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and thanked the long-standing support of the guests to the Department’s development in Welcome Remarks. Following Prof. Liu and Dr. Cheung’s speech, alumnus Mr. Philip Poon, Information Security Architect, Workday, was invited to provide a talk titled “AI and Beyond”. Alumni from other renowned IT companies such as Facebook, Google and Apple also joined the panel discussion and shared their working experience and view on AI development. The talk and panel discussion were full of constructive interaction and well received.

In addition, 28 alumni and faculty members got connected in the Grand Reunion Dinner organized by the University. With the tasty buffet and compelling singing and magic show, participants spent a relaxing evening with lots of laughter.
