In view of pursuing the goal of internationalization, Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has formed an exchange partnership with Ostbayerischen Technische Hochschule Regensburg (OTH Regensburg) in Germany since 2018. The cooperation with the OTH Regensburg focuses primarily on engineering, natural and economic sciences.

Despite the global pandemic, both universities succeeded in strengthening their relationships even during this difficult time. Both universities first piloted a virtual student exchange. Students from the respective partner university were invited to attend guest lectures with industrial partners and a virtual HKBU hackathon was offered to students from OTH Regensburg.

In addition to this form of student exchange, a collaboration scheme that allows both HKBU and OTH students to get two MSc degrees in two years has recently been piloted. Zihan Zhu (COMP MSc in Advanced Information Systems 2020 Graduate), went to OTH Regensburg in September 2020 to start his master's degree in computer science. In return, Tobias Held from OTH Regensburg is currently doing two exchange semesters in Hong Kong in order to acquire Master of Science in information technology Management. At this moment he temporarily could not travel to Hong Kong due to the pandemic, but it was still possible to start the HKBU semester virtually from OTH Regensburg.

“The diverse activities show that internationalization can be strengthened and deepened even in times of pandemic. In HKBU we are pleased to find a committed and innovative partner.” says Prof. Markus Westner, representative of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics in OTH Regensburg.
