Cryptographic Access Control in Clouds

Dr. Sushmita Ruj
Assistant Professor
Indian Statistical Institute

Date: October 16, 2015 (Friday)
Time: 2:30 - 3:30 pm
Venue: SCT909, Cha Chi Ming Science Tower, Ho Sin Hang Campus

Clouds are been extensively used to store sensitive data. It is important that authorized users have access to stored data and unauthorized are not. Fine grained access control means granting selective access rights to selected users. I will talk about fine grained access control in clouds with and without privacy preservation. All the protocols are based on a cryptographic primitive known as Attribute-Based-Encryption. I will discuss various applications along the way and end with cloud access control for resource constrained mobile devices.

Sushmita Ruj is an Assistant Professor at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. She received her B.E. degree in Computer Science from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, India in 2004, and Masters and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Indian Statistical Institute, India in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Between 2009 and 2010, she was an Erasmus Mundus Post-Doctoral Fellow at Lund University, Sweden; and between 2010-2012, she was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at University of Ottawa, Canada. She was an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Indore during 2012-2013. She was a visiting researcher at University of Wollongong, Australia, INRIA, France, Kyushu University, Japan and intern at Microsoft Research Labs, India.

Her research interests are in applied cryptography, security and privacy in IoT, mobile ad hoc networks, vehicular networks, smart grids, social networks, cloud security, analysis of complex networks and combinatorics. She has collaborated with researchers across five continents and has delivered several technical lectures around the world. She is on the Editorial Board of Ad Hoc and Sensor Wireless Networks. Sushmita has served as Program Co-Chair for ICDCS workshop, NFSP'2013, ICC-13 Workshop Secure Networking and Forensic Computing (SNFC) and has served as TPC member for many conferences like ACM ASIACCS, Indocrypt, IEEE Globecom, IEEE ICC, IEEE MASS, IEEE PIMRC, ICDCN and many others. She won best paper awards at ISPA 2007 and IEEE PIMRC 2011. Sushmita is a member of IEEE and ACM.
