4 Dec 2013

Our PhD student, Qing Bao, received the best student paper award in the 2013 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence (WI 2013) based on her recent work entitled "Incorporating Structural Diversity of Neighbors in a Diffusion Model for Social Networks". This work shows how information discussion in a social network can be better modeled by considering the connectivity of the neighbors of the individuals in the network.

The 2013 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence (WI 2013) was held in Atlanta, USA in Nov 2013, which is sponsored by IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Intelligent Informatics (TCII), Web Intelligence Consortium (WIC), and ACM-SIGART. The conference on scientific research and applications by jointly using Artificial Intelligence (AI) (e.g., knowledge representation, planning, knowledge discovery and data mining, intelligent agents, and social network intelligence) and advanced Information Technology (IT) (e.g., wireless networks, ubiquitous devices, social networks, semantic Web, wisdom Web, and data/knowledge grids) for the next generation of Web-empowered products, systems, services, and activities.
