Visit to Hong Kong International Airport :

14 faculty members and students (postgraduate and foundation programme), together with 7 members from IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter, paid a visit to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on 21 November 2007.

During the visit, the HKIA staff introduced their current RFID system used in baggage handling and guided a tour to show the on-site operation of this system. All participants benefited much from this visit, including:

(1) a better understanding of the real operation of an RFID system,

(2) the realization of the challenges and problems in implementation of such a system,

(3) the potential collaboration with each other.

Industry Visit:

Industry Visit:

On 24th September 2004, the Chapter arranged a visit to the manufacturing plant of VTech Holdings Limited at Houjie, Dongguan.  The plant manufactures electronic learning products and toys from toddlers to teenagers.  Eight participants, which consist of staff members of local technology companies, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation as well as Hong Kong universities.  Miss Grace Pang, Senior Corporate Communications Manager of VTech, had briefed the participants the background of VTech and its main lines of  business in telecommunication products, electonic learning products and contract manufacturing services.  The participants were then led to the factory area to have a look at the manufacting process of the company's electronic learning products.   A number of queries were raised to VTech's staff regarding the quality control, production line design, and inventory management, etc, during the tour.  The visit was wrapped up by a question-and-answer session in which participants had asked questions varying from VTech's research and development plan to its research collaboration with local universities.
