Dr. Jianing Zhu, our PhD graduate, has been awarded the 2025 TrustAI Rising Star Award, a testament to his outstanding contributions.

The Department is proud to celebrate the achievement of our alumnus, Dr. Jianing Zhu, who has been awarded the prestigious 2025 TrustAI Rising Star Award at the Lock-LLM Workshop of NeurIPS 2025.

The Award recognises early-career researchers who have made significant contributions to advancing the trustworthiness, security, and responsible use of large language models.

Dr. Zhu is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Chandra Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He completed his PhD in the Department of Computer Science at HKBU under the co-supervision of Professor Bo Han and Professor Jianliang Xu.

During his doctoral journey, he also gained international research experience as a visiting student researcher at Carnegie Mellon University and as a research intern at RIKEN AIP.

His research focuses on building human-aligned machine intelligence, with particular emphasis on improving model robustness against adversarial examples, enhancing reliability for out-of-distribution data, and ensuring transparency through controllability and traceability. His work contributes to the development of responsible AI systems that benefit society and enhance safety.

Professor Bo Han shared, “It is deeply rewarding to see his dedication and vision recognised at such a high level. His success is a testament to the values of rigorous research and responsible innovation we strive to cultivate.”

We take pride in celebrating Dr. Zhu's success as a reflection of the Department’s vision for excellence and impact in the field of computer science. Looking forward, the Department remains committed to nurturing future leaders who shine in the digital world.
