Dr. Bo Han Secures Young Collaborative Research Grant for Pioneering Research in Trustworthy Machine Learning
8 Jan 2025
In the latest round of the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) for 2024/25, Dr. Bo Han, Assistant Professor of the Department, has secured the prestigious Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG) to advance research in Trustworthy Machine Learning.
Dr. Han leads the project titled “Towards Trustworthy Foundation Models under Imperfect Scenarios”. This project has garnered a substantial grant of over HK$4 million and is a collaborative effort with researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The project aims to develop trustworthy foundation models that can perform effectively under imperfect conditions. Given that most real-world data, such as unexpected image artefacts and adversarial inputs, are frequently noisy, the research focuses on addressing reliability, robustness, and safety issues in the field of machine learning.
Professor Jianliang Xu, Head of the Department, expressed his pride in the remarkable achievements of his team members, stating, “This is the Department's second consecutive year receiving the YCRG grant. This achievement not only recognises Dr. Han's outstanding research in machine learning but also highlights the vital role of the Department's young talents in advancing top-tier interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaborations.”
Administered by the Research Grants Council (RGC), the YCRG aims to support early-stage scholars in gaining first-hand experience in leading high-quality collaborative research projects across disciplines and institutions, better preparing them to compete for larger collaborative research funding in the next stage of their careers.
