Professor Renjie Wan, Assistant Professor in the Department, has been awarded a Silver Medal at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva for his innovative project, "Guardian3D: Unbreakable IP Protection for Your 3D Assets." This accolade recognises his significant contributions to securing digital intellectual property in the rapidly evolving landscape of synthetic media.

“I am truly honoured to receive this prestigious award. As we navigate a future where human creativity and AI coexist, our mission extends beyond protecting copyright; we are committed to fostering a fairer, more transparent system for creators worldwide,” Professor Wan remarked.

This award-winning technology effectively combats unauthorised duplication of 3D assets through dynamic watermarking and encryption. It embeds invisible, traceable watermarks into 3D models, ensuring verifiable ownership and accountability, even when the assets are modified. The solution also provides comprehensive analytics and real-time monitoring, empowering creators to track asset usage across various platforms and enforce licensing agreements, thereby enhancing their ability to protect and monetise their work in the digital realm.

The 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is a prestigious annual event that exclusively showcases inventions. This year’s exhibition, held from 9-13 April in Switzerland, featured an impressive total of 1,050 inventions from over 40 countries and regions, all entries were evaluated by an international jury of specialists. This year, esteemed scholars from HKBU garnered a total of nine awards, including two Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, three Gold Medals, three Silver Medals, and one Bronze Medal.
