In celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Department of Computer Science, a series of Distinguished Lecture is scheduled. Prof. Ivan Stojmenovic from the University of Ottawa visited the Department and delivered the 1st Distinguished Lecture of this series on “Mobile Computing, Communications and Sensing” on 17 October 2013.

Mobile devices are serving as cloud computing platform for intelligent and large-scale social network nowadays. The mobile cloud computing is also a “crowd computation” in responding the needs. During the lecture, Prof. Stojmenovic introduced the development of mobile cloud computing and shared his insights of the green approaches and vehicular concepts of this phenomenon. Inspired by Prof. Stojmenovic's findings, many audiences were interested in Prof. Stojmenovic's research, and the Distinguished Lecture was well-received.

Prof. Stojmenovic received his Ph.D. degree in mathematics. He is currently a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He held regular and visiting positions in Europe, Asia, the USA and Australia. He published over 300 different papers, and edited seven books on wireless, ad hoc, sensor and actuator networks and applied algorithms with Wiley. He is editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (2010-3), and founder and editor-in-chief of three journals. Prof. Stojmenovic is on Thomson Reuters list of Highly Cited Researchers. He is Fellow of the IEEE, and Canadian Academy of Engineering, and Member of the Academia Europaea (The Academy of Europe). He was IEEE CS Distinguished Visitor 2010-11 and received 2012 Distinguished Service award from IEEE ComSoc Communications Software TC.
