Prof. Kui Ren from the State University of New York visited the Department and delivered a Distinguished Lecture on “My Smartphone Knows What You Print: Exploring Smartphone-based Side-channel Attacks Against 3D Printers” on 14 December 2016. Prof. Ren introduced 3D printing (additive manufacturing) and raise up a question: is it possible that smartphones access the side-channel signals of 3D printer and then hack the IP information? He answered the question by performing an end to-end study on exploring smartphone- based side- channel attacks against 3D printers. The lecture was full of constructive interaction and well received.
