Brilliant Computer Science alumnus Mr Gary Kwok Ka Yeung in the profession of information technology shared his career development and life experience to over 50 students, alumni and staff of the Faculty at the Alumni Sharing Series on 17 November 2021, organised by the Faculty of Science, HKBU.
Gary, is our senior graduate of the Department. Currently, he is working as the Head of Architecture in the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), in leading a team of managers and specialists focused on defining and governing IT architecture strategy, supervising and supporting various domain areas.
During the sharing session, he talked about the challenges he encountered in the past when developing his career, for example developing mobile apps in the past years that apps were not known to the public at all, starting and selling his own business, changing different roles in the IT field, and so on. To embrace every opportunity, he described his career path as a ‘trial and error’ approach with a motto of “Can Do DNA”. He encouraged participants to step out of their comfort zones and be bold when they plan their careers. During the Q & A session, the participants were enthusiastic about learning more from the speaker and seeking valuable advice from him.
In celebration of its 60th Anniversary, the Faculty of Science initiates the Alumni Sharing Series by inviting outstanding science alumni in different professions to share their career development and life experience with the next generation. We were honoured with the presence of Dean of Science Professor Jiming Liu, Associate Dean of Science Professor Pong-chi Yuen, Department Head Professor Jianliang Xu, and former Department Head Professor William Cheung in joining the sharing by computer science alumnus on this occasion.
