In collaboration with the Salvation Army, students connect with the elderly and engage in Life and Death education.
Last year's immersive learning activities includes a visit to the Li Ka Shing Day Care Centre, where students interacted with dementia patients.
The Department is pleased to announce that our undergraduate course, "COMP 2035: AI and Data Analytics for Health and Social Innovation I," has been accredited by the International Holistic Competency Foundation. This accreditation recognises the course's strengths in developing students' AI literacy, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, empowering them to tackle social health issues through innovative solutions.
One unique feature of this course is its emphasis on experiential learning. Last year, students visited the H.K.S.K.H. Li Ka Shing Day Care Centre for the Elderly, where they interacted with dementia patients through sensory games. This experience offered valuable insights into the complexities of patient care. Building on this knowledge, students further explored AI solutions to enhance support for dementia patients. This year, students also participated in a service-learning workshop hosted by the Salvation Army, which included Life and Death education as part of their palliative care training.
Dr. Zuneera UMAIR, the course instructor, articulated, “Through hands-on learning experiences, students develop interdisciplinary skills, build empathy, and address social health issues by harnessing AI and data analytics technologies.”
The International Holistic Competency Certification serves as a credential system that acknowledges courses developing students' graduate attributes, generic skills, soft skills, and employability competencies. It is recognised by the International Holistic Competency Foundation and supported by research partners, reviewers, and fellows from higher education institutions, industries, and communities worldwide.
