The IAPR/IEEE Winter School on Biometrics 2025 is successfully held during 12 - 16 January 2025.
The Winter School provides an innovative platform for young scholars, researchers, and industry practitioners to exchange ideas and acquire new knowledge on the latest developments in biometrics.
Professor Pong Chi Yuen, School Director of the Winter School and Chair Professor of the Department, exchanges ideas with participants during the hands-on session.
Professor Yuen delivers an enlightening keynote titled ‘Remote Photoplethysmography Based 3D Facial Mask Presentation Attack Detection’.
Dr. Kaiyang Zhou, Assistant Professor of the Department, shares his insights on the Foundations of Vision-Language Models.
This year's networking programme includes a cruise tour in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao area, where participants enjoyed breathtaking views and engage in meaningful discussions with experts and peers.
The IAPR/IEEE Winter School on Biometrics 2025 is successfully concluded on 16 January in Shenzhen, attracting near 100 participants around the globe. This prestigious event is jointly organised by the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University, the Institute of Automation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology.
This year, with a focus on the theme "Generative AI and Foundation Models for Biometrics," the Winter School featured 16 distinguished scholars who shared their latest research insights on AI-powered biometric technologies. The discussions encompassed essential topics such as generative biometrics, non-contact identification, presentation attack detection, privacy protection, and biometric matching in cryptosystems, offering valuable insights into the latest development in biometrics. In Addition, the hands-on sessions and networking events further facilitated meaningful connections among young scholars, researchers, and industry practitioners, fostering vibrant exchange and collaboration.
Since its inception in 2017, the Winter School on Biometrics serves as an innovative platform, exploring the pioneering developments in biometrics. The programme is designed to cover key areas, including mobile biometrics, anti-spoofing techniques, template protection, and the fundamentals of various biometric modalities. This year's event was made possible with the generous support of the International Association for Pattern Recognition, the IEEE Biometrics Council, and XSuperzone.
