The IAPR/IEEE Winter School on Biometrics 2026 concluded successfully on 29 January in Shenzhen, marking its 10th anniversary as a leading international forum for biometric research and innovation. Jointly organised by the Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University, Institute of Automation at Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology, the Winter School welcomed participants from across the globe.

Themed “Generative AI and Multimodal Foundation Models for Biometrics,” this year’s programme showcased pioneering developments in biometric technologies, featuring poster sessions, thought-provoking lectures from distinguished scholars and leading practitioners, hands-on workshops, project presentations and prize ceremonies.

Participants gained valuable insights and explored applications in generative biometrics, privacy protection, anti‑spoofing techniques, and secure template management. A special networking cruise provided a memorable setting for fostering collaboration and building lasting professional connections.

Since its inception in 2017, the Winter School has established itself as a cornerstone event in the biometrics community. The 10th anniversary edition not only celebrated a decade of success but also looked forward to the next frontier — where generative AI and multimodal foundation models are set to redefine the landscape of biometrics.
