We are delighted to announce the reappointment of Professor C. Mohan as Distinguished Professor of Science and the appointment of Professor Marc Hamilton as the inaugural Distinguished Professor of Technology.

The appointments were conferred at a ceremony held as part of HKBU’s 70th anniversary and the Faculty of Science’s 65th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation and impact.

Distinguished Professor of Science: Professor C. Mohan

Professor C. Mohan enjoyed a distinguished 38-year career at IBM, serving as an IBM Fellow at the IBM Almaden Research Center in Silicon Valley until 2020. He is also a member of the United States National Academy of Engineering, renowned for his pioneering contributions to databases, blockchain and AI, including the ARIES recovery algorithms and the Presumed Abort protocol. Since 2023, he has served as HKBU’s Distinguished Professor of Science and has now been reappointed, delivering talks worldwide and inspiring both students and colleagues.

Distinguished Professor of Technology: Professor Marc Hamilton

Professor Hamilton is the Vice President of Solutions Architecture and Engineering at NVIDIA, leading global teams in AI, deep learning, professional visualisation and high-performance computing. With prior leadership roles at HP and Sun Microsystems, and early work in aerospace and defence HPC applications, he brings deep expertise at the intersection of advanced technology and industry.

“By bringing together a legend in databases and AI with a pioneer in computing solutions, we create a unique environment where new connections can flourish and complex challenges can spark fresh ideas,” Professor Michael Ng, Dean of the Faculty of Science, said during the appointment ceremony.

We warmly congratulate Professor C. Mohan and Professor Marc Hamilton. Their appointments exemplify our mission to advance fundamental knowledge and to translate that knowledge into meaningful technological and societal impact.
