Abstract
In this talk, digital imaging based investigation of flame dynamics and structure from 1D to 4D will be presented. Both the laboratory and industrial burners are studied.

Biography
Professor Yang Zhang received BEng from Zhejiang University, China and PhD in the Engineering Department of Cambridge University. He then worked as a Research Associate and Research Fellow (Darwin College, Cambridge University) on two projects (Integrated Diesel European Action : IDEA and the follow-on project IDEA EFFECT) supported by six European car manufacturers and EU. After this, he moved to UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, which was then merged with the Victoria University of Manchester to form the University of Manchester in 2004), before taking the Chair of Combustion and Energy in Sheffield. He has many years of experience in combustion research and has published extensively in the field. His research interests have been supported by the EPSRC, the EU, the Royal Society and industrial collaborators such as BP, e.on, Rolls Royce and Siemens. He has observed new combustion phenomenon and developed innovative diagnostics for combustion and thermal fluid studies. Prof. Zhang’s research group is known for the development of imaging-based flame diagnostics, which has the potential for real machine test and monitoring at high temperature and pressure. His philosophy and methodology on combustion diagnostics such as colour discrimination, quantitative high speed and 3D flame measurement are being accepted by industry as practical and effective.
