Four DAAI students win the 2nd runner‑up award at Hong Kong IoT Data Hackathon 2026.

Four students from the Master of Science in Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (DAAI) programme won the 2nd runner‑up award at Hong Kong IoT Data Hackathon 2026, organised by GS1 Hong Kong, co-organised by Cyberport and HKSTP, and supported by the Digital Policy Office, HKSAR. The team proudly attended the award ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, where they received the prize and presented their project on stage.

The winning team, comprising Wang Yaokai, Wang Qi, Wen Jingzhi and Ou Yuanlin, developed an innovative dual AI-IoT solution for gerontechnology by integrating internal data with Hong Kong’s demographic and healthcare statistics to create a demand‑forecasting dashboard and precise user profiles. Featuring speech and image recognition, the solution enables personalised product bundling and provides a roadmap for market expansion.

Wang Yaokai represented the team on stage, sharing their experience and expressing heartfelt gratitude to their mentor, Mr. Louis Mah, Director of Information Technology at Maxim’s Group, for his valuable guidance.

The students also emphasised the importance of combining classroom learning with real‑world case analysis and highlighted how the competition enabled them to transform data into actionable business strategies, applying skills learned in the DAAI programme.

“I am grateful for the knowledge from the DAAI programme, particularly the IT Project Skills course, which introduced me to various AI applications and useful data analysis platforms. The competition also taught me that data analysis must be combined with real‑world context, not just data itself. At first, our team produced many findings but struggled to focus. Through team discussions, we clarified our goal: to promote technology products for the elderly and identify potential users, enabling us to structure our analysis and develop a well-focused final proposal,” shared Ou Yuanlin.
