Professor Clement Leung of the Department of Computer Science and his research student Roger Wong (Computer Science PhD, Year 3) won the championship in the Hong Kong Business Plan Competition organised by the Young Entrepreneurs Development Council for their business plan related to developing a high-tech portable multimedia player that makes organising photos and videos easier.
For the competition, Professor Leung and Roger joined hands with five professionals in the areas of software development, business development and finance and set up a virtual company called VASA Technologies. They prepared a business plan for developing and marketing a portable multimedia player called U-Pin, which has integrated auto-tagging functions that were developed through computer science research.
Speaking of the benefits of their multimedia player, Roger said: “U-pin can help people arrange and sort photos and videos automatically by content, time or place. It aims to change people’s habits in storing and organising great amounts of multimedia material in the future.”
The Young Entrepreneurs Development Council organises annual events such as the Hong Kong Business Plan Competition and the e-Challenge to help students develop an entrepreneurial sprit. This year, over 1,400 entrepreneurs and students participated in the two events, which received over 300 business proposals.
