Under the “One University, Two Campuses” initiative, the Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) partnered with Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) to host the inaugural Joint Postgraduate Research Symposium on 12-13 June 2025 in Zhuhai. This collaboration, leveraging HKBU’s research expertise and BNBU’s innovative campus, fostered cross-campus synergy, interdisciplinary exchange, and academic synergy, attracting nearly 130 scholars and postgraduate students to strengthen cross-campus ties.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Professor Zhi Chen, President of BNBU, followed by insightful addresses from Professor Jianxin Pan, BNBU Vice-President (Research and Development), and Professor Jianliang Xu, Head of HKBU Department of Computer Science. Their remarks set an inspiring tone for the symposium, emphasising the importance of collaboration and research excellence.

This annual symposium featured a series of engaging research presentations and poster exhibitions, where postgraduate students showcased their outstanding work in various fields, including machine learning, computer vision, data management, data mining, 3D Gaussian splatting, cybersecurity, edge computing, recommendations, and so on.

In addition to academic pursuits, the symposium enriched participants with cultural immersion tours. On 13 June, postgraduate students and faculty members explored the rich heritage of Zhuhai, visiting BNBU Campus and historic HuiTong Village, and enjoying lychee picking at a local farm. These experiences strengthened bonds and created cherished memories.

Reflecting on the event, Professor Jianliang Xu remarked, “This symposium is a dynamic platform for emerging researchers to showcase their innovative work, driving advancements in research and collaboration. We eagerly anticipate welcoming BNBU partners to HKBU campus next year.”

Through the annual Postgraduate Research Symposium, the Department is committed to enhancing the postgraduate learning experience, expanding academic horizons, and nurturing the next generation of researchers.
