Two final-year undergraduates, Dezhi Chen and Anmol Dhawan, pursuing their BSc in Computer Science, achieved remarkable success in the 2023 Pan-Pearl River Delta + University IT Projects Competition Final held in Macau on 3-4 July 2023. Dezhi secured the first prize, while Anmol claimed the third prize, impressing the judges with their exceptional research concepts, innovations, technical abilities, and outstanding presentation skills.

Dezhi Chen, a standout student from Hong Kong, received the first prize in the undergraduate category for his final year project titled “Privacy-Preserving KYC”. His project focused on developing a robust solution for conducting KYC (Know-Your-Customer) while safeguarding individuals’ real identities. He tried to address the crucial need for KYC compliance within the rapidly expanding Web3 ecosystem, specifically emphasizing new crypto exchanges and DeFi companies.

Throughout this demanding project, Professor Jianliang Xu, Head of the Department of Computer Science, also the supervisor of Dezhi’s final year project, provided him invaluable guidance and unwavering support. “This national IT competition provides an excellent platform to nurture students’ technical capability and creativity. The splendid achievement gained by Dezhi and Anmol is a testament to their hard work and perseverance,” he added.

Since its inception in 2006, the Pan-Pearl River Delta + University IT Projects Competition has been a key event in the field of computer science in China. The Competition attracted tens of thousands of university students around China every year. This year's edition received an overwhelming response, with nearly 2,000 projects submitted from 17 provinces and cities. In the Hong Kong region, the Internet Professional Association (iProA) is the organiser of this Competition and has shortlisted eight teams to represent Hong Kong in the final. Among this pool of remarkable talent, only 60 elite projects were selected to advance to the final stage, further highlighting the achievements of Dezhi and Anmol.
