Biography

Matteo Ferrara is an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Bologna, Italy. His research interests are in the areas of Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Image Processing and Machine Learning.

He received his bachelor's degree cum laude in Computer Science from the University of Bologna in 2004, his Master's degree cum laude in 2005 and his Ph.D. in 2009.

Most of his applied research is in the field of Biometric Systems (fingerprint recognition, performance evaluation of biometric systems, fingerprint scanner quality, face recognition, palmprint recognition and template protection). He is member of the Biometric System Laboratory and he is one of the organizers of the international performance evaluation initiative named “FVC-onGoing”. Moreover, he is one of the authors of the well-known fingerprint recognition algorithm named “Minutia Cylinder-Code” (MCC).

He is author of several scientific papers and he served as referee for international conferences and journals. He took part to national and European research projects and to consultancy projects between the University of Bologna and foreign universities and companies.
