2011 Student Project Competition

Both the 8 th Final Year Project (FYP) Competition and 5 th Postgraduate Paper Contest organized by the IEEE (HK) Computational Intelligence Chapter have been recently concluded.
This year, we have received several entries from different universities in Hong Kong, including the the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Baptist University. Each submitted project/paper went through a review process by our panel consisting of experts in the area of computational intelligence.
Finally, the following papers/projects were short listed, and then presented in the ceremony, which was held on August 20, 2011. As a result, the competition results are as follows:

Postgraduate Paper Contest:

1. Champion: “Learning Robotics Control from One Demonstration”, Student: Tak Kit Lau (CUHK), Supervisor: Yunhui Liu
2. First Runner-up: “Minimizing Seed Set for Viral Marketing”, Student: Cheng LONG (HKUST), Supervisor: Raymond Wong
3. Second Runner-up: “Authenticating Moving Spatial Queries”, Student: Duncan Yung (PolyU), Supervisor: Eric Lo

FYP Competition:

1. Champion: “Opinion Mining for Adverse Reactions in Anti-depression Drug”, Student: Chao TANG (Baptist U), Supervisor: Chun Hung LI
2. First Runner-up: “Multi-Task Learning for Personalized Age Estimation”, Student: Xiang GAO (HKUST), Supervisor: Dit-Yan Yeung
