2015 Student Project Competition

Aug 22, 2015

Both the 12th Final Year Project (FYP) Competition and 9th Postgraduate Paper Contest organized by the IEEE (HK) Computational Intelligence Chapter have been recently concluded.

This year, we have received many entries from different universities in Hong Kong, including the City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Open University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, and. Each submitted project/paper went through a review process by our panel consisting of experts in the area of computational intelligence.

Finally, the following papers/projects were shortlisted, and then presented in the ceremony, which was held on August 22, 2015. As a result, the competition results are as follow:

FYP Competition:
1. Champion: "Intraday Volume Forecasting for Algorithmic Trading via Kalman Filter", Student: RAN Chen (HKUST)
2. First Runner-up: "Study and Design of an Indoor Positioning Method: a simple and rapid approach", Students: YUNG Po Tsang & DING Li (PolyU)
3. Second Runner-up: "ActiveCrowd", Student: Rigsby CHI (CityU)

Postgraduate Paper Contest:
1. Champion: "A Social Spider Algorithm for Global Optimization", Student: James YU (HKU)
2. First Runner-up: "Resource Allocation between Initialization and Optimization under computational expensive environment", Student: Mike SUN (CityU)
3. Second Runner-up: "Collaborative Deep Learning for Recommender Systems", Student: WONG Hao (HKUST)
