About 1st Workshop

We held the 1st International Workshop on Social Recommender System (SRS) in conjunction with the ACM conference on Intelligent User Interfaces 2010 (IUI’2010) in Hong Kong. Our one-day workshop included 10 presentations and had over 40 participants world wide. As a result of this workshop, we will be publishing a special issue that consists of our best submissions in ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technologies in 2011.

Motivated by our success, we would like to continue the series and hold our 2nd SRS workshop in conjunction with CSCW 2011 for several reasons. First, we would like to extend our reach to the CSCW community, as we believe that social collaboration is one of the key application areas of SRS. Second, we would like to leverage the knowledge and expertise of the CSCW community to examine the culture’s influences on social recommender systems. Third, we would like to take advantage of the conference setting to attract researchers in China where social recommendation has been identified as a key feature in Chinese online social communities.
