Curriculum

Aim


The programme aims to educate IT managers and professionals who possess technical and management knowledge for designing, developing and managing IT systems. It provides a transformational experience in integrating the technological and managerial sides of IT. On completion of this programme, students should be able to achieve the following programme intended learning outcomes:

  1. Explain the core technical and management concepts and apply these concepts in an integrated manner for IT management.
  2. Explain and apply the current methodologies in some selected areas in IT management (such as IT enterprise management, knowledge and information management, Internet and web technologies, and business analytics).
  3. Identify business needs and explain the process of transforming business needs into IT systems.

Programme Characteristics


  • The M.Sc. programme focuses on IT Management. Students will acquire a transformational experience in integrating the technological and managerial sides of IT.
  • Students will learn the state-of-the-art methodologies in hot areas of IT Management (namely, IT Enterprise Management, Knowledge and Information Management, Internet and Web Technologies, and Business Analytics).

Programme Structure & Courses


Each student is required to complete 29 units as follows:

11 units of core courses
Each student must complete five core courses which cover the foundations of IT and management. However, if she/he has a Bachelor's degree in IT or closely related fields or has taken equivalent courses, she/he must substitute the core course "Internet Computing and Programming" by an elective course.
18 units of elective courses
The elective courses are divided into four streams and MSc Project & Research:
• Stream 1 − IT Enterprise Management
• Stream 2 − Knowledge and Information Management
• Stream 3 − Internet and Web Technologies
• Stream 4 − Business Analytics
• MSc Project & Research
Each student is required to select at least three streams among the four streams and successfully complete at least one course in each selected stream.

Duration & Schedule


The programme is offered in both one-year full-time mode and two-year part-time mode. Most classes are conducted on weekday nights at 6:30-9:20pm while a few classes, assessment activities and make-up classes may be conducted on Saturday daytime. In this manner, both full-time and part-time students can attend these classes/activities.
