Broader Double Concentration Pathways for Undergraduates Pursuing a Bachelor in Computer Science

25 Apr 2024

The Department is pleased to announce the launch of new Double Concentration (DC) options for the Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Hons) in Computer Science programme, effective from the 2024-25 academic year. This initiative aims to provide students with diverse learning pathways and expand their academic horizons.

In response to student feedback and insights from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, all concentrations will now be open for second Concentration choices, for Year 3 students from 2024-25. Professor Byron Choi, Programme Director of the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science programme, shared his excitement for the new DC options, “We are committed to broadening the horizons of our students by offering a diverse suite of Computer Science disciplines, thereby nurturing a skill set that is both comprehensive and adaptable for the dynamic technology industry.”

The Programme Team has carefully reviewed the DC course requirements to maximise flexibility, allowing for more double counting of courses between Concentrations. This adjustment enables students to customise their education based on their interests and career aspirations while leaving room for free electives. The enhanced programme structure now allows students in the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science to opt for the following double concentrations:

  1. Computing and Software Technologies + Artificial Intelligence
  2. Information Systems and Analytics + Artificial Intelligence
  3. Computing and Software Technologies + Information Systems and Analytics
