Prof. Lai Jianhuang
School of Information Science and Technology
Sun Yat-sen Univesity

Date: September 28, 2010 (Tuesday)
Time: 10:00 - 11:00 am
Venue: SCT714, Cha Chi Ming Science Tower, Ho Sin Hang Campus

This paper introduces our recently developed methods in pattern recognition, including GA-Fisher, Perturbation LDA, Comparison of 1D-LDA and 2D-LDA, Pre-image Learning, Face Illumination Normalization and so on. From these methods and based on the fundamentals of pattern recognition, we illustrate how to find the scientific problems and how to model the problems mathematically.

Prof. Jianhuang Lai received the M.Sc. degree in applied mathematics in 1989 and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics in 1999 from Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. He joined SunYat-sen University in 1989, where currently, he is a Professor with the Department of Automation, School of Information Science and Technology. He has published over 80 papers in the international journals, book chapters, and conferences. His current research interests are in the areas of digital image processing, pattern recognition, multimedia communication, wavelets and their applications. He has charged of more than five research projects, including NSF-Guangdong (U0835005), NSFC (Numbers 60144001,60373082,60675016), the Key (Key grant) Project of Chinese Ministry of Education (Number105134), and NSF of Guangdong, China (Number 021766, 06023194).
