Internships & Placement

To foster students' future career development, our Computer Science programme integrates practical experience into the curriculum. Through internships and placements, students will gain real-world experience, thereby enriching their work experience in preparing for the professional world.

Students are required to take a minimum of 6 weeks of summer internship after the completion of their Year 3 studies. They may opt to take the option of a one-year computer-related placement.

Gain Invaluable Real-World Experience

The internship experience at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority was incredibly valuable, as it not only strengthened my database management skills, but also allowed me to learn about the entire product development process. The Java programming skills I gained during my studies were applicable and instrumental in the workplace.

The rigorous coursework and hands-on training I received at HKBU prepared me for the rewarding challenges I faced during my student work placement at HSBC. Through my studies, I developed a skillset in data analysis, programming, and change management that proved instrumental to my work.

My work experience at the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board was an enriching journey. The placement allowed me to gain valuable industry insights into the field of banking, while also strengthening my programming and data management skills.

Working on the open-source school management platform Gibbon was an incredibly fulfilling experience. I enhanced my coding skills in PHP, worked extensively with MySQL for database management, and gained hands-on experience with version control tools like Git for collaborative development. Contributing to a platform used by schools worldwide was both challenging and rewarding, bridging my academic learning with real-world applications.
