The Department is committed to providing our undergraduates with enriching global learning experiences. Last semester, two outstanding students, Zhou Yubo (BSc in Business Computing and Data Analytics, Year 3) and Venus Wong (BSc in Computer Science, Year 4), embarked on a study abroad journey at the prestigious McGill University in Montreal, Canada. This life-enriching experience not only broadened their academic horizons but also catalysed significant personal growth.

During their time at McGill University, Yubo joined the McGill Robotics Club, a student-led community dedicated to developing robots for large-scale environmental studies. In the project “Mars Rover”, he was instrumental in developing the Ground-Penetrating Radar system, offering valuable insights into electronic engineering and signal processing. Reflecting on the experience, "This opportunity enabled me to forge lasting friendships with peers from diverse backgrounds,” he shared. Inspired by this collaboration, Yubo led a cross-institutional team, comprising students from McGill and Hong Kong Baptist University to succeed in two tech-innovation contests. Their AI-powered "JOI" intelligent planter project clinched the championship titles in both Start-up Saturday and HK x AI Open Cup 2023, marking a remarkable milestone in his study journey.

Meanwhile, Venus, majoring in Computing and Software Technologies, explored her passion for game development during her stay at McGill University. Engaging in transformative courses, she delved into the intricacies of game development, including collision mechanics, user-centric design principles, and advanced topics like path-finding algorithms. To conclude her study abroad experience, Venus shared, "Studying abroad has equipped me with invaluable insights, expanded my global connections, and reaffirmed my career aspiration as a UX designer, " she articulated.

Beyond their academic pursuits, Yubo and Venus also embraced the vibrant culture of Montreal, immersing themselves in the rich artistic and historical heritage. Yubo remarked, "My semester at McGill University was a holistic and enriching experience that transcended classroom learning, instilling in me a profound appreciation for technological innovation and an enduring passion for cultural exploration."

The Department is dedicated to offering continuous support and opportunities for students aspiring to enhance their global competencies. Through global learning experiences, students are exposed to diverse cultures, fostering personal growth and expanding global connections.
