Over 300 attendees explored the transformative power of generative AI (GenAI) at “Generative AI for Healthcare and Beyond”, a dynamic talk series hosted by HKBU’s Faculty of Science and Alumni Affairs Office on 10 April 2025. The event brought together distinguished faculty and alumni to explore the transformative potential of GenAI in healthcare and beyond.

Professor Michael Ng, Dean of Science, opened the event, highlighting the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid development of GenAI and emphasising the University’s commitment to equipping students for an AI-driven future. Professor William Cheung, Associate Vice-President (Transdisciplinary Education), Professor in the Department, and Director of the Centre of Health Informatics, delivered a compelling keynote address, showcasing cutting-edge GenAI applications for healthcare, including predictive analytics for Electronic Health Records and AI-generated X-ray reports.

The dialogue was further enriched by a panel discussion featuring Computer Science alumnus Chan Ka-ho, Head of the Analytic Platform at HSBC, and Mathematics alumnus Dr. Charles Cheung, Senior Data Scientist and Deputy Director at NVIDIA AI Technology Center HK. They explored the future trends in GenAI and its integration into university education and industrial practices. Participants actively engaged during the Q&A session, posing insightful questions that sparked further discussion.

Jointly organised by HKBU’s Faculty of Science and the Alumni Affairs Office, the talk series aims to foster knowledge exchange among academic leaders, strengthen alumni networks, and showcase their significant contributions to society.
