Computer Science Scholars Shine at HKBU Outstanding Performance Awards 2025

The Awards Presentation for Outstanding Performance 2025 is successfully concluded on 9 May.
Professor William Cheung receives accolade from Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, at Awards Presentation for Outstanding Performance 2025.
The Department proudly announces that three faculty members were celebrated for their exceptional contributions at the Awards Presentation for Outstanding Performance 2025, hosted by HKBU on 9 May.
Professor Li Chen, Associate Head (Research) and Professor, received the President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching (Individual) in recognition of her innovative, learner-centred pedagogies and curriculum design. She led interdisciplinary programs, including the BSc in Data and Media Communication (DMC) and the MSc in AI and Digital Media (AIDM), and has integrated research-intensive teaching into her courses, such as human-computer interaction and recommender systems. "Teaching goes beyond textbook knowledge. It's about nurturing students' creativity and bridging theory with real-world impact," said Professor Chen. "I am honoured to receive this award and will continue advancing student-centered education."
Professor William Cheung received the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service for his 25 years of exceptional contributions to HKBU. He spearheaded four pioneering transdisciplinary bachelor’s degrees, launched HKBU Metaverse and AI literacy courses, and forged academic-industry partnerships with NVIDIA AI Technology Centre, Hong Kong Hospital Authority, and Hong Kong Electric. His profound contributions have significantly advanced HKBU’s influence in AI applications across industries.
Professor Jie Chen, Assistant Professor, earned the Faculty Performance Award in Early Career Researcher, for his pioneering research in multimedia science and artificial intelligence, shaping advancements in art technology. He has published over 60 high-quality papers in reputable journals and conferences. His start-up, Lumos Arts and Technology Limited, leverages cutting-edge technologies for advanced digital human modeling, motion generation, and AI-driven interactive real-time visualization. Professor Chen’s research insights have positioned HKBU at the forefront of art tech innovation.
