Professor Jianliang Xu, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science, received a Silver Medal at the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions for his groundbreaking project titled "Gas-efficient Blockchain Technology for Trustworthy Data Storage and Retrieval". This recognition reaffirms his valuable contributions to the advancement of blockchain data management and his steadfast dedication to this pivotal field of technology.

“I am delighted that our gas-efficient blockchain technology has been well recognised at this international invention event. Our research team is committed to pursuing further innovative breakthroughs that can be translated into practical solutions and technologies to improve human life,” said Professor Xu.

This award-winning project has effectively addressed the pressing issues of high-cost and environmental challenges associated with blockchain data maintenance. With a relentless commitment to innovation, Professor Xu and his research team have developed a cost-effective and efficient innovation that enhances gas efficiency and maintains query integrity within blockchain networks. This advancement has resulted in a substantial reduction in blockchain transaction costs by as much as 78%. Moreover, it ensures that the data retrieved from queries remains unaltered and faithful to its original form. Should any data be lost or compromised, the system is designed to quickly detect and notify users of such discrepancies. This significant breakthrough paves the way for secure and more economical blockchain applications, ushering in a realm of vast potential across diverse industries.

The Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions is a signature global annual event devoted exclusively to inventions. This year’s competition, held from 17 - 21 April in Switzerland, featuring a record number of inventors, universities, institutes, and companies showcasing a total of 1,035 inventions from 38 countries.
