Professor Xu Jianliang received President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work

Prof. Xu Jianliang, Professor of the Department of Computer Science, was awarded the President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work 2017. The President's Award Selection Committee acknowledges Prof. Xu as an outstanding scholar on account of his excellent research contributions to the field of big data management.

Prof. Xu has demonstrated maturity in scholarly work with reputation and ranking in the international scene. After joining HKBU, Prof. Xu has an outstanding publication record with more than 150 research articles, many appearing in top-tiered journals and conferences. His publications have a citation count of more than 6,000 with a high H-index of 40.

Prof. Xu’s research has been continuously awarded by external research grants under keen competition. As Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator, he has reaped 12 grants from the Research Grants Council as well as 2 grants from the Innovation and Technology Fund and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with a total funding amount exceeding HK$10 million.

Prof. Xu is keen to transform his fundamental research into practical applications. He has been granted two US patents and a further patent application is awaiting approval. He has also been serving as an Associate Editor in top journals such as IEEE TKDE and PVLDB, and is often invited to address international conferences as a plenary speaker.

The Selection Committee commends Prof. Xu demonstration in high quality of scholarly work with recognition as a leading expert in the field, thus recommends him the awardee of the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work.
