On 10 June 2022, a group of students from the Departments of Computer Science and Economics enjoyed a fruitful corporate visit to Hong Kong Telecom (HKT), a premier telecommunications service provider and a leading innovator in Hong Kong. The visit aimed to offer a good platform to our students in gaining a deeper understanding of broadband, mobile communication, media entertainment services and exploring future career opportunities in this giant telecommunication provider. This exclusive corporate visit attracted 24 students and staff, led by Dr. Jean Lai, Internship and Career Coordinator of the Department.
HKT representatives welcomed the participants, introduced their insights of market trends and new technologies, and also showed the group around the office. The tour provided a valuable chance for students to learn more about broadband, work environments, and corporate culture.
As part of our off-campus corporate engagement and outreach, dialogue with HKT leaders on career opportunities and trainee programmes was widely discussed. Valuable experience of working in different fields of the telecommunication industry, and what as well as how students should prepare themselves for joining the profession were shared.
The Department is committed to organising a variety of on-campus and off-campus student career development initiatives to well prepare our students to different industries, different types of roles, and opportunities in rapidly developing fields, such as IT, fintech or AI.
