Rewarding Digital Journey to the ICED Hub at Hang Seng Bank

On 7 February 2023, over 30 undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department made a rewarding visit to the ICED Hub at Hang Seng Commercial Banking’s digital floor, an interactive and engaging session to explore the application of data and analytics, the development of digital business solutions and career opportunities in the banking industry.

This wonderful visit started with the guided tour of the ICED Hub, a cool digital floor that featured a diverse range of event and customer engagement spaces, interactive touchscreens for customers and digital banking services at Hang Seng. Students were introduced to the business implementation of technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence developed by Hang Seng’s Wholesale Data and Analytics Department. Trend, future, career and the introduction of data analytics in the bank were also highlighted by its representatives.

During the visit, Hang Seng’s career development programmes, in particular in data analytics track and internship/placement opportunities were introduced. Valuable experience of working at Hang Seng from STM interns, and how students should prepare themselves for joining the profession were shared.

Students gained great insights into the real-world applications of technology, how new digital solutions to help customers improve their operational efficiency, and realised the importance of innovation, business analytics, transformation and data management in a rapidly changing business environment.

The Department is dedicated to organising a variety of on-campus and off-campus student career development initiatives to well prepare our students to different industries and different types of roles. We arrange company visits every term as part of the student experiential learning in the real business world.
