Tech Trek 2024: Navigating the Future of FinTech, Telecom and Aviation

The Department is pleased to share the successful conclusion of Tech Trek 2024, an exploratory series that took place from April to May and led students across the cutting- edge landscapes of FinTech, telecom, and aviation. This initiative provided students with the unique opportunity to witness the seamless integration of pioneering technologies into everyday business practices.

The series kicked off on 22 April 2024, with an inaugural event hosted by IX FinTech Group Limited, featuring a keynote by CEO Ms. Irene Wong, who delivered an enlightening presentation on Decentralised Finance. Her comprehensive overview of Digital Asset Exchange Machine (DAEM) – IX FinTech’s flagship offering – allowed students an exclusive look into the sophisticated realms of digital asset trading via the ixWallet, handling everything from cryptocurrencies to real asset tokens.

The discovery continued into May, participants had the chance to go behind the scenes with industry giants - Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) Limited and the Airport Authority of Hong Kong.

On 14 May, participants enjoyed an engrossing expedition at HKT, which provided a dual experience. They were welcomed to a session that discussed industry trends, where HKT’s project team leaders shared insights into market dynamics that reinforce the company’s market position. This was followed by a dynamic workshop from HKT's Human Resources Department, which provided critical career guidance, resumé crafting tips, and a practical session on mock interviews conducted by company managers.

The finale of Tech Trek took place at the Hong Kong International Airport on 16 May, offering participants a rewarding journey through the Innovation Lab and Aviation Academy. The representative of The Airport Authority Hong Kong presented a comprehensive overview of the airport’s strategic roadmap, spotlighting the brand new innovative “11 SKIES” retailtainment complex. Furthermore, he demonstrated the advanced technologies being implemented in the innovation lab, providing a window into the dynamic and inspiring technological advancements at the airport.

"Participating in Tech Trek was a truly eye-opening experience that deepened my understanding of how technology reshapes various industries. The exposure to real-world applications and interactions with industry experts has fueled my passion for innovation and exploration," shared by one of the students.
