Date: May 3, 2007 (Thursday)
Time: 10:30 - 11:30 am

The last decade witnessed the trend of server-based and specialized computing for integrating heterogeneous enterprise IT systems. In today’s global economy, no company can be really independent, and a company can excel only if it focuses its investment in its expertise domain and takes full advantage of existing solutions or services on the market. This seminar will explain alternative technologies and best practices for integrating heterogeneous and distributed IT systems as well as for integrating enterprise data both syntactically and semantically. It will also clarify the relationship among the object-oriented computing paradigm, the component-based software engineering, and the recent service-oriented architectures. The seminar will identify the fundamental concepts and skills underpinning the latest IT technologies and Pace University’s strategy in integrating them into its computing programs.
Dr. Lixin Tao is a tenured computer science professor with Pace University in New York. He received his Ph.D in computer science from University of Pennsylvania in 1988, and conducted computer science research and teaching with Concordia University in Montreal for 13 years before he joined Pace University in 2000. His research interest includes Internet and Web computing, parallel and distributed computing, software engineering, security and combinatorial optimization. He has published over 150 original papers in refereed international journals and conference proceedings. He is an IEEE senior member.
